It has certainly been a long-winded storyline.
But EastEnders bosses have revealed that the drama around Lucy Beale's killer won't resolve any time soon - as the killer will, quite literally, get away with murder.
Instead, TV executives have disclosed that another Albert Square resident will be detained for the crime, leaving 11- year-old Bobby to evade justice.

Speaking to The Mirror, Dominic Tredwell-Collins, the show's executive producer, said the plot twist will mark the latest story arc for the Beale family - as it will focus on Jane.
'Viewers have seen Ian and Jane decide to keep it a secret, but this story will keep going on. What I can reveal is that someone else – an innocent person – will be arrested for this murder,' he said.
'Then carrying this guilty secret comes back to haunt Ian and Jane. How can you keep that a secret when someone else is facing jail for a murder they didn’t commit?
'As a parent, what do you do? Do you go to the police and tell them that person is not the killer because your own son did it? How far will they go to protect their child?'

The new development comes after the storyline finally reached its conclusion, with Bobby - played by 12-year-old actor Eliot Carrington - unmasked as the killer on Thursday.
The producer said he initially had two other suspects in mind for the murder before deciding to put Bobby in the frame and added the idea had been partly inspired by the murder mystery novels of Agatha Christie.
He said: 'Three of Agatha Christie's best ones - one of them the detective did it, one of them everyone did it and one of them the narrator of the story did it. We always wanted those big twists.'
He said it was a conscious decision not to show the fight between the two characters to protect the young actor.
